SUSTAINABLE CONSTRUCTION

For a future with sustainable buildings, we must ensure the right resource and waste management and the careful evaluation of the environmental impacts throughout their life cycle. Therefore, certification systems such as LEED are critical.

Once interested in certifying a project, USinGreen,are avaliable to present a proposal for consulting.

What is LEED?

“LEED is the triple bottom line in action, benefiting people, planet and profit.” (USGBC)

It is a system for evaluating the sustainability of buildings with the main objective of reducing the environmental impact on construction.

Assesses the conformity of construction techniques and processes with the aim of contributing to sustainable development.

Ensures the implementation and evaluation of sustainability measures throughout all stages of the development of the buildings/projects.

LEED is the most widely used green building rating system in the world.

It is intended to:

Real estate managers, Designers, Architects and Builders

Why choose LEED certification?

“The LEED plaque on a building is a mark of quality and achievement in green building.”(USGBC)

LEED certification means healthier and more productive spaces, reduction of the environmental impact and efficient use of resources. LEED can contribute to significant reduction in energy and water consumption, CO2 emission, and waste production. Consequently, it reduces operational costs.

LEED buildings…

• Are competitive;

• Make happier users;

• Attract tenants;

• Save energy and resources, lowering operational costs;

• Are cost-effective;

• Promote better social relations inside in the community;

• Increase rental rates

Where does LEED apply and how does it work?

“All buildings in. LEED is flexible enough to apply to all project types.”
(USGBC)

LEED works for all buildings at all stages of development whether it is a new building or an existing one (it can also be applied inside the building only). Different classification systems include sectors such as residential, healthcare, schools, commercial, data centres and hospitality. It can also be implemented on a neighbourhood scale.

Projects seeking LEED certification earn points through several areas that address sustainability issues. Based on the number of points achieved, the project gets one of four classification levels:

• LEED Certified: 40 – 49 points

• LEED Silver: 50 – 59 points

• LEED Gold: 60 – 79 points

• LEED Platinum: 80 ou more

How is LEED in Europe/Portugal

“LEED works with top building professionals around the world to deliver a system that is applicable at the global, regional and local levels. That means that LEED works no matter where you live” (USGBC)

LEED is global.

LEED has great international prestige demonstrated by its application in more than 94000 buildings and more than 165 countries.

There are already several certified buildings in Portugal.
